GAUGUIN AND THE VOYAGE TO THE EXOTIC

With so nuch competition from the public sector, the quality of Madrid private galleries and museums has also improved. The current Gauguin Exhibition at the Thyssen features the voyage as an escape from civilisation, a theme that provided the avantgarde with new impetus, but also as a return to the origins, to the edenic state.

  1. I love Gauguin. He was a great and highly experimental artist who helped open the door to the development of 20th-century art. He represents the rebellious artist in the aesthetic and the political. In my opinion, may be he was the first witness to the destruction of people and landscapes colonized by Western countries.

  2. Yesterday I visited the exhibition. Gaugain´s pictures inspire me calm and serenity, sensuality and beauty. Their shining and bright colours are very innovative. Very curious the influence on the later artistic movements. And again I am very surprised with the fabulous Carmen Thyssen Collection! Perhaps we aren´t very conscious.

  3. I have read a book inspired in this marvelous artist, an his voyage to the south (specially South America) make the person wonder about his lifestyle and he had an extreme life change to a better way, but it was interrupted because a group of people kill him for unknown reasons. I recomend this book: "Los mares del sur".
