HUGH LAURIE: BRITISH SLANG VS: AMERICAN SLANG
Hugh Laurie visited Ellen's show and they played a brilliant game on slang. Have a gig watching it at YouTube.
After watching this video I'm a little depressed because if americans and english people sometimes can't understand each other, what would happen to me if I tried to speak with one of them?
On the contrary, Sarah, you should relax as you check even native speakers have to ask each other for particular slang words and regional differences. If they could actually understand each other it would have been impossible to follow the gags. Cheer up!
On the web I found this interesting explanation about slang: "New slang words are being invented by teenagers always. Teens use slang words in sentences to make the sentences shorter, faster and easier to say. Those slang words are used in different ways and have different meanings from the literal or dictionary meaning. Adult language and teen language are different. Teens slang helps them identify with a group"
